Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road) or National Highway 45 is one of the busiest National Highways in Southern India with a total length of . The highway starts from Kathipara junction in Guindy, a busy confluence of five roads in south Chennai and extends up to Theni.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 National Highways Starting and Terminal Stations )〕 It connects Chennai to its airport and the southern suburbs. The three important Cities connected by this highway are Chennai, Trichy and Dindigul and the two important towns connected are Viluppuram and Theni in Tamil Nadu. The highway has a four lane (two lanes each direction) system between Chennai and Trichy, though a complete change to six lanes is planned. The Dindigul-Theni section is under four lane construction. Chennai International Airport is located on the highway within the Chennai City limits. == Traffic ==
At night, the highway experiences a huge volume of traffic. On an average, around 12,000 lorries use this highway to reach Chennai every night. The highway has several hotels and restaurants along the entire stretch, including five-star hotels such as Le Royal Meridien, Trident Hilton and Radisson GRT near the Chennai International Airport. Fatal accidents happen once in a while in this highway, mostly in the early mornings as the drivers sleep off while driving.The large amount of traffic on NH 45 is seen in between Chennai and Tindivanam.
